DeSuung Volunter Management System
De-Suung, meaning “Guardians of Peace,” is a volunteer organization in Bhutan, founded by His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck in 2011. Established with a vision of fostering unity and a culture of public service, De-Suung is committed to promoting peace, security, and the collective welfare of Bhutan. Volunteers, known as De-Suups, undergo training to respond to emergencies, support community development, and contribute to national well-being. Their training emphasizes patriotism, discipline, and selflessness, equipping them with skills in disaster response, first aid, water resource management, and environmental conservation.
De-Suung’s contributions to water resource management have been particularly impactful, with various projects addressing water shortages and ensuring access to safe drinking water in rural areas. During the COVID-19 pandemic, De-Suups played a crucial role in quarantine enforcement, healthcare support, and public awareness campaigns. Beyond disaster and health response, De-Suung actively engages Bhutan’s youth, fostering leadership and social responsibility while undertaking environmental conservation initiatives such as reforestation, waste management, and clean-up efforts.
Recognized for its distinctive orange uniforms, De-Suung has become a symbol of national unity and public service in Bhutan. The organization is widely respected for its contributions to public welfare and national resilience. Looking ahead, De-Suung aims to expand its efforts in disaster management, sustainable development, and volunteerism, reinforcing its role as a pillar of Bhutanese society and a force for national good.
Problem Statement
The current De-Suung app faces significant challenges in effectively managing De-Suup deployments, awarding hearts, points, and service pins, and facilitating volunteer participation and applications for skilling programs. Many users struggle to navigate these essential features, making volunteering and upskilling efforts cumbersome. Furthermore, the app lacks a centralized system to streamline data management, integrate related services, and implement robust security measures. These limitations hinder De-Suung’s ability to attract and retain volunteers efficiently, ultimately impacting its mission of community service and national resilience.
Objective
This project aims to develop a mobile app with integrated administrative dashboards, allowing De-Suups to volunteer for events, apply for skilling programs, and receive recognition through hearts and points for their service. The app will provide a streamlined user experience, enabling De-Suups to earn service pins based on accumulated points and hearts, reinforcing motivation and engagement. Additionally, the platform will equip administrators with tools to efficiently manage data, track volunteer contributions, and promote opportunities, contributing to De-Suung’s mission of fostering community involvement and personal growth.
